Dissertation Topic: Coastal-fluvial compound flooding along rivers

Research Statement: My doctoral research investigates the frequency of coastal-fluvial compound flooding along rivers in historical and observational records. Coastal-fluvial compound flooding arises from the interaction of high river discharge and coastal storm surges, posing significant threats to agricultural and urban areas. My work involves statistical modeling of the joint probabilities of high river discharge and coastal storm surge to identify compound flood events, exploring correlations and causal relationships between key variables such as excessive rainfall, wind-driven storm surges, and river discharge, which drive compound flooding events.
