Dissertation Topic: Spatial and temporal distribution and abundance of Percina Aurora within the Pascagoula River basin

Research Statement: I am interested in understanding the spatial and temporal organization of aquatic organisms in riverine systems, especially how that organization changes following disturbance events such as floods or land use changes caused by human. I plan on focusing my research on the endemic Pearl darter (Percina aurora) found in the Pascagoula River system in southeastern Mississippi.  Through the application of geospatial tools, river geomorphology principles, and riverine fish ecology, I hope to gain a better understanding of the habitat use and preference of the Pearl darter in order to aid in its conservation.
