Biography: Dr. Corene Matyas is a Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Florida. She received her BS in Environmental Geosciences at Clarion University of Pennsylvania, MA in Geography from Arizona State University, and PhD in Geography from Pennsylvania State University. Her primary research measures the spatial patterns of the rain fields of tropical cyclones, which has been funded through grants from the National Science Foundation. She teaches courses in Climatology, Hurricanes, Atmospheric Teleconnections, and Atmospheric Data Analysis. She received Teacher of the Year Awards from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences in 2009 and 2019. Also in 2019, she received the Excellence in Teaching award from the Southeastern Division of the American Association of Geographers. In addition to mentoring the research of Santa Fe College students in GEOPATHS, she has supervised 39 undergraduate research hour registrations and contributed to 29 undergraduate posters/presentations.
