Joel Wolfson is a technology professional who is passionate about process improvement through geospatial methodologies. He has worked in the defense, engineering and space sectors solving problems for both small businesses and Fortune 500 companies for nearly 10 years. Joel has gotten the chance to travel around the world and touch just about every type of geospatial project allowing him to understand success, identify failure and demonstrate the business value of a GIS. Most operations have people, customers and assets located around the world, causing them to ask “where” multiple times a day. Many of these companies and operations don’t have the geospatial expertise to appropriately derive the intelligence needed to answer these questions. For this reason, Joel believes that all operations can benefit from geospatial technology and people with geospatial expertise, whether they would like to think so or not. Joel decided to study geography after learning about the possibilities of GIS while backpacking through Colorado. After taking an initial course at the University of Florida, Joel developed a personal interest and affinity for the insights that could be derived from remote sensing. He had no idea what types of careers and lines of work waited for him. He is thankful that he gets to work every day in a field that he approached due to curiosity and is blown away that he is paid to do what he loves. Joel has a Bachelors of Arts in Geography and Political Science from the University of Florida and a Masters of Science in Business Analytics and Information Systems from the University of South Florida. Joel has a lovely and intelligent wife and fellow gator grad Mallory, a future gator son Graham and a wonderful dog and gator supporter Kimchi.
