Matthew Pflaum awarded AAG Research Grant

The American Association of Geographers and its Awards Committee has awarded PhD candidate Matthew Pflaum as a recipient of one of its 2022 AAG Research Grants.

The award is in support of Matthew Pflaum’s research on adaptive strategies that pastoralists in the Central Sahel region use to combat insecurity due to violent conflicts.

Matthew Pflaum is advised by Dr. Olivier Walther, and is a doctoral candidate in the UF Department of Geography. Matthew Pflaum and Dr. Walther are members of the Sahel Research Group, a collaborative interdisciplinary effort to understand the political, social, religious, economic, environmental and cultural dynamics of the countries of the West African Sahel.
