Abstract: Depredation of cattle and corresponding retaliatory killing represents the primary threat to the globally significant jaguar population present in the Rupununi region of Guyana. We fit sought to understand the movement patterns of free-roaming cattle herds by fitting cattle with GPS collars, spatial overlap between livestock and large carnivores with camera traps, patterns in the frequency and distribution of depredation and retaliatory killing events through conflict mapping workshops, and the perceptions of livestock producers to depredation events through semi-structured interviews. Our models project areas at highest risk for conflict and we suggest livestock management strategies that will re-direct cattle away from areas where they are most at risk.

All are welcome to attend.
