Dr. Kandel’s scholarly work broadly spans the intersection of climate science, environmental science, and urban planning. Her research acknowledges the impressive body of civic values, knowledge, skills, and experiences related to climate change and uses a trans-disciplinary approach to redistributing expertise in climate change decision-making. In this talk, she will introduce two extreme heat research projects in Boston, Massachusetts: 1) community-engaged extreme heat research and 2) youth-led extreme heat research, that engages marginalized community members as ‘context experts. The research aims to develop equitable and socially just heat resilience solutions by combining expert-driven climate risk assessment with localized knowledge while promoting data ownership, equity, agency and fostering intergenerational learning and empowerment.

All are welcome to attend.
