GEO4700 GEO6706 Transportation Geography

Course Description
Introduces the history and evolution of transportation systems, and essential concepts, theories, and topics in transportation geography, such as spatial organization, economic foundations, urban form, major modes, globalization, and environmental impacts. Also covers network representation of transportation systems, network measures, and core methods and tools for visualizing and analyzing transportation systems, including spatial accessibility, spatial interaction, spatial networks, and GIS for transportation (GIS-T).

Course Objectives
* Describe the evolution of the U.S. transportation system;
* Describe the geographic nature of transportation systems;
* Apply the concepts, theories, and models that are central to the study of transportation systems;
* Visualize and analyze transportation systems using GIS tools.

Prerequisites
sophomore standing or higher

Note: this class can be considered as a Systematic Elective course.
