The Glenda Laws Award is administered by the American Association of Geographers and endorsed by members of the Institute of Australian Geographers, the Canadian Association of Geographers, and the Institute of British Geographers. The annual award recognizes outstanding contributions to geographic research on social issues. This award is named in memory of Glenda Laws—a geographer who brought energy and enthusiasm to her work on issues of social justice and social policy. All early to mid-career scholars involved in geographic research on one or more social issues are eligible for this award. In his nomination and support for this award, his peers stated “Dr. Wright is an important scholar whose work transcends disciplinary boundaries and creating a strong research and publication profile. Few scholars at this stage of their career have made a broader or more impactful contribution to the field of human geography and Black Geographies specifically. He is also committed to justice and working closely with communities to advance the fight and struggle for justice in communities long written out of mainstream geographic scholarship. He is, in short, a leading voice in the field and someone who is deeply committed to the work of justice.”
