Leandra Merz awarded the Calvin A VanderWerf Award

PhD Candidate Leandra Merz has been awarded the Calvin A. VanderWerf Award for excellence in teaching by the UF College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and UF Graduate College!

Each year a committee administered by the Graduate School selects graduate teaching assistants to be recognized for their excellence in teaching. While several nominees are awarded Graduate Student Teaching Awards, students rated at the top of the award nominees receive  the Calvin A. VanderWerf award.

Landra was particularly evaluated for her efforts teaching Conservation of Resources. In class, she encourages diverse viewpoints and experiences as the class reflects on lectures and assignments together in small group activities. These small groups allow Leandra to take advantage of Team-Based Learning pedagogy, aiding her students to develop communication strategies, practice evaluating peers, and participate effectively in teams.
