We had an exciting Evening of Excellence – combining our annual awards event with the retirement celebrations of Pete and Greg. Dr. Peter Waylen was retiring after 28 in Geography, including serving as Department Chair for 7 years and a 5 year stint in the Deans Office as an Associate Dean for the college. Dr. Greg Glass retired after 7 years as a Preeminent Faculty here at UF, where he was a joint hire between the Emerging Pathogens Institute and Geography. Both Greg and Pete will be sorely missed!
“The advances in multiple technologies involving computing, remote sensing and molecular biology in recent years places the department in a leading position in the country to solve both the question of what causes disease outbreaks and to define the approaches to study the ‘where’ and ‘when’ of disease emergence.” ~Dr. Greg Glass
“It has been a privilege to spend my career working with students and colleagues during the rise of the University and department to national prominence.” ~Dr. Peter Waylen
This year’s event was on Friday, March 18, 2022 and was part of the two-day Geography Alumni Event. But the main event remained the celebration of our students and faculty through a number of awards.

It is only through the enthusiasm of our students and faculty, and continued support from the college and our alumni, that we continue to improve as a program. As we have increased our undergraduate enrollments, our graduate programs continue to excel and our faculty recruitment continues to amaze, we are delighted to say Go GeoGators!
