Several PhD students ended the spring semester by obtaining notable grants and fellowships from outside the department.
Tim Fullman was awarded a prestigious Dissertation Award from the UF Graduate School to support the completion of his dissertation.
Amy Panikowski has been awarded a NSEP David L. Boren Fellowship. The fellowship will allow her to participate in intensive language training at the UF for isiZulu during the summer. In the fall, she will travel to South Africa and spend ten months continuing language training, completing field work and writing her dissertation.
Ryan Good has been awarded a Fulbright-Hays fellowship through the Group Projects Abroad program. The fellowship will allow him to travel to Tanzania this summer for Swahili language training followed by doctoral research.
David Keellings has been invited by the Mesoscale & Microscale Meteorology (MMM) division of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) to collaborate on their project “Examining the Evolution of Hot Spells over Brazil in current and future climates.” He will be working on evaluating new climate simulations of extreme temperatures in Brazil.
