Amber Todoroff chosen for IDREHSI Experience

Amber was one of ten interns chosen to participate in the National Science Foundation’s Interdisciplinary Research Experience in Hyperspectral Imagery (IDREHSI) Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa.  During this program she completed four weeks of intensive hyperspectral digital image processing and field lab training, accompanied by four weeks of applying those skills to a personal project.  Working under a faculty mentor, she completed her project involving the identification of wildfire susceptibility in the arctic tundra using Hyperion data.  The corresponding paper is currently being edited to submit for publication.

Amber states: “This was such a great experience.  I worked with some really interesting and smart people from all over the country, completed a project I am very proud of, and had a lot of fun too.  Plus NSF is providing funding for me to present my poster (after some edits) at the AAG conference in Tampa this year. I would highly recommend this program to any geography undergrad regardless of their previous remote sensing experience. Hopefully another gator can go next year too!”
