All are welcome to attend.

Agroecosystems across the planet are being taxed to produce more food, fiber and fuel, while reducing the adverse effects of agriculture. Precision agricultural methods – for farming, ranching and conservation – are held out as critical paths for achieving “sustainable intensification”, including a resilient balance of ecosystem services. However, the scales of tradeoffs and synergies among agro-ecosystem services are often not spatially or temporally concordant; they vary within and among fields, farms, landscapes and regions. Therefore, research efforts are needed that can provide analytical frameworks for the assessment, comparison and planning of agricultural outcomes. In this talk, I will talk about the research ongoing at the Southeast Watershed Research Laboratory in Tifton, GA, and our role in the USDA Long-Term Agroecosystem Research Network.

Dr. Coffin is a Research Ecologist in the Southeast Watershed Research Laboratory of the USDA-ARS in Tifton, GA, and adjunct faculty at the University of Georgia. Her B.S. was in Environmental Studies from Rutgers University, she has a MLA in Landscape Architecture from Harvard University, GSD, and her PhD in Geography from the University of Florida. Her research focuses on using remote sensing and spatial analysis to better understand agro-ecosystems.
