Certificate FAQs

  • Am I eligible for certificate programs in Geography?Currently, all certificate programs offered by the Geography department are opened to degree-seeking students at UF.The Undergraduate Certificate in Meteorology and Climatology and Graduate Certificate in Applied Atmospheric Science can be available to non-degree seeking students. Please contact Dr. Corene Matyas (matyas@ufl.edu) for more information.
  • Do I need to apply for admission into a certificate program?Yes, you do. The certificate program is separated from your major program. You are NOT automatically admitted when taking required courses.
  • When should I apply for admission into a certificate program? Please apply as soon as you know you are interested in joining, especially when you are taking your first course for it.
  • How to apply for an undergraduate certificate?1) Go to https://admissions.ufl.edu/apply/certificates and fill out the online application. For degree seeking students, please apply as ‘currently enrolled UF students’ with your GatorLink account. For non-degree seeking students, please apply as ‘new students’.2) In the ‘Certificate Program’ section, the year and term you are applying for should be the term you plan to start this program, in most cases, the CURRENT year and term, or the earliest term the form allows if late in the current semester.

    3) Make sure you choose the College of Liberal Arts and Science. Under in the ‘Concentration’, pick the certificate title.

  • How long it may take to approve my application? For degree-seeking students, it usually takes 5-10 business days for the department and college to review your application. For non-degree seeking students, the time can be longer since your transcripts need to be reviewed before admission. You are also recommended to email and notify the certificate coordinators after you complete the application, so that they can check your names in the system.

Once approved, you should be able to see a new certificate section being added into your degree audit. If not, please contact the certificate coordinator immediately.

  • Who should I contact if having any questions regarding a certificate? You are advised to check course sequencing with the certificate coordinator (at least once per semester), because not all courses are offered each term and new courses may be added too.
