Research Statement
Dr. David W. Beilman, currently Professor and Chair of the Department of Geography and Environment at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, will join the University of Florida Department of Geography as a Full Professor of Biogeography beginning Fall 2026. Dr. Beilman is an internationally recognized biogeographer and Earth system scientist whose research bridges biogeography, ecology, paleoecology, and global carbon cycling, with particular emphasis on peatlands and long term ecosystem–climate interactions. He earned his PhD in Geography from UCLA and has held postdoctoral appointments at UCLA and Queen’s University Belfast before joining UH Mānoa in 2009. His work has been published in leading journals including Science, Nature Climate Change, Geophysical Research Letters, and Biogeosciences.
