Our commitment to a Diverse and Inclusive department
The Department of Geography at the University of Florida is committed to a welcoming, safe, inclusive, and equitable environment for our students, staff, postdocs, and faculty. We value the opportunity to share ideas, solve problems, and learn from people with diverse experiences and backgrounds that inform their unique contributions. We respect a multiplicity of identities including, but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, economic status, abilities, religious beliefs, age, and national origin because our community is strengthened by our differences and our commonalities.
These values are also reflected in statements by our national geographic association:
American Association of Geographers (AAG)
Enhancing diversity, promoting inclusion, and broadening participation in the discipline of geography are goals that are central to the AAG and its mission. The AAG actively engages in outreach and research activities to promote diversity and inclusion within the geography community. We also include data from a variety of sources about our membership and department composition. This section promotes recent and ongoing AAG projects focused on broadening participation in geography.
