JOB POSTING – Research Technician (Geospatial Analyst)

The Quantitative Disease Ecology and Conservation Laboratory (QDEC Lab) in the Department of Geography and Emerging Pathogens Institute at the University of Florida is seeking a research technician with expertise in geospatial analysis, remote sensing, and Google Earth Engine. The successful candidate will contribute to work quantifying the urban-rural social-ecological environment for spatial analyses of disease risk, as part of a 5-year CDC funded project in Africa, exploring COVID and other febrile disease risk (including vector borne diseases).

Responsibilities will include downloading remote sensing data, analysis and classification of raster imagery using geospatial analysis tools (e.g., Google Earth Engine, ENVI, R), and preparation of raster data products for use in modeling studies.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Demonstrated experience in performing geospatial analyses and processing remote sensing data
  • Extensive experience using Google Earth Engine
  • A master’s degree in geography, ecology, biology, forestry, biostatistics, epidemiology, mathematics, or a related field

Desired:

  • Experience with additional geospatial software packages and coding languages
  • Experience with enumeration of built environments
  • Experience in international projects and/or data sparse environments
  • Experience accessing and using MODIS data
  • Experience with data management for GIS projects
  • Good practices in code documentation and creation of metadata
  • Prior experience working in a fast-paced, collaborative research team

Compensation:
This position is available June-August 2023, with start-date flexible for the right candidate. Salary is $30/hr full-time OPS with benefits, hired through the University of Florida. This is an on-campus position, but potential for off-campus consultancy status will be considered with demonstrated ability to perform.
