Donations for Fiscal Year 2012–2013

In the past fiscal year the Department received donations of almost $18,000, from a combination of alumni, faculty and friends of the Department. As state funding has dwindled over the past 8 years to $17,000 annually, these donations have become crucial in allowing us to support our students in an appropriate fashion. These funds are used almost exclusively in supporting the travel of both undergraduate and graduate students who are making presentations at local, regional, national and international conferences. Shared transport and conference hotel rooms build a sense of camaraderie amongst the students and convey a strong message of student cohesion and institutional support to attendees from other Universities. Even when full support for national or international travel is beyond departmental means, we provide $250 per student, which can leverage additional funds from the College, Graduate School and Graduate Student Council. The faculty thank you for this support of our students, and hope that we display a similar commitment.
